Abstract— The SAE Lighting Systems Group (LSG) has been active in the development of automotive lighting standards and recommended practices for 70 years. In recent years the Group has also been fulfilling a pivotal role in providing industry feedback to US regulatory initiatives. Particularly, with the increased interest from US regulators in automotive lighting, the SAE Lighting Systems Group has been studying topics such as ADB Test Procedure Development, and the proposed introduction of vehicle lighting as part of recent upgrades to the NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The SAE LSG activities in these areas will be reviewed. An overview of the work program of new and revised standards in the SAE Automotive Lighting portfolio will also be given.
