We observed a higher attention rate for automotive interior lighting systems in the last several published vehicles over the last years. Latest, with the introduction of the new Mercedes S-Class and Maybach carline, it was obvious that there was in general a greater point of interest for vehicle interior illumination compared to the past. For that, we want to start from the beginning to try to answer basic questions for such an in-vehicle illumination system. By doing so, we identified light-colour preferences, its in-vehicle positions, emotions of participants and meanings for such an illumination system, as our four-start points. To investigate these elements, we conducted a scientific online survey. The attendance was completely in an anonymous way. Based on pre-defined answer-options or four-point Likert scales participants are able to answer the questions in a guided way. To further motivate people to fill out the questionnaire, a high dynamic and interactive layout was chosen including animations. We published this survey by adding it to our research homepage to provide a globally free and available access. To further increase the answering-efficiency of the questionnaire, the layout was primary optimized to answer it directly on a personal smartphone distributed by social Media platforms like WeChat, Facebook or WhatsApp. Some first results out of this study will be presented to try to define a solid base for further investigations in the in-vehicle lighting context.
