Abstract—In the past years, we have witnessed significant increase in the presence and scope of interior ambient illumination. We have seen it transform from monochrome to RGB LED technology and we have seen it presented in may design shapes. Continues development of electronic components is nowadays allowing OEMs and light-system manufacturers to make the next evolution step and move from static ambient illumination to dynamic lighting. Bringing movement to ambient illumination functions is necessary to be able to offer a completely personalized environment for the occupants and furthermore – to add functionality to light and use it as information carrier. Conclusion is, interior light will play a new role as a communication medium inside and outside of the vehicle. For this, HELLA presents its new product group, so called SMART LIGHT with generation one, two and three. Including application examples in USE CASE GROUPS and the first HELLA FIELD STUDY to evaluate moving light effects from the vehicle passengers’ point of view.
