Adaptive Headlights utilizing LED-ArraysJörg Moisel, Ralf Ackermann, Manfred Griesinger Keywords: LED, LED array, spotlight function, partial high beam Introduction In 2007, the first automotive headlights using high power LED arrived on the market (Lexus LS600h), two more projects launched in 2008 (AUDI R8, Cadillac Escalade Platinum). However, they offered no additional functionalities compared to conventional light sources: HID headlights will stay the benchmark in terms of functionality (AFS), power consumption (绍90lm/W) and cost in the near future. From today’s point of view, a functional advantage of LED could be realized in a few years in two ways: (1) reduced power consumption of a low level headlight (halogen performance) and (2) AFS functions or new functions without moving parts utilizing LED-Arrays. In this article we focus on the second approach. |
