New Efficient Optics (NEO)Author: Arnaud Perrotin (arnaud.perrotin@valeo.com) Company: Valeo Lighting Systems Abstract: Despite the strong interest of HID or LEDs, halogen technology will remain important during the next decade. It is so important to continue to propose solutions to improve the safety and the comfort of drivers that will not have the money to drive cars equipped with HID or LEDs systems. Therefore, a new optical technology was developed for halogen Low Beam: NEO (New Efficient Optics) This technology presents several advantages: -More flux on the road compared to a traditional complex shape surface with the same size (600lm could be achieved) -Better compactness compared to existing complex shape designs, particularly for the width -New styling opportunities The new system is integrating both a new complex-surface reflector, and a specially-designed lens, avoiding the traditional shield used in projector systems, and responsible of an importan loss of light. The article will explain in detail the principle, present the results, and show as an example the application on a recent car launched end of 2010. |
