Abstract—The combination of camera based object detection and headlamp reaction arrived in a new level with the invention of Adaptive Driving Beam solutions such as Partial High Beam and especially Matrix Beam systems.
Before the serial production started, the new functionality was base of several research projects driven by various
scientific studies about traffic situations, detection distances, photometric requirements and driver reactions and driver expectations.
The paper will analyze the various studies about traffic safety impact on Matrix headlamp systems as well as the
general approach for partial high beam systems. Additionally, the implementation of the new headlamp systems into the current world of regulations around the globe will be discussed.
