Abstract—The SAE Lighting Systems Group (LSG)has been active in the development of automotive lighting standards andrecommended practices for over 70 years. The group manages a broad portfolio oflightings documents, where new topics are continually added. An example is thetransfer into the LSG in the past year of Motorcycle Lighting Standards throughthe formation of a new Motorcycle Lighting Committee.  

Furthermore,the LSG closely follows and studies regulatory initiatives like the NHTSA AdaptiveDriving Beam Headlighting System Glare Assessment and the recently proposed lightingadditions to the NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) and, where the Group has taken a leading role in preparing industryfeedback. SAE Recommended Practice J3069 (Adaptive Driving Beam) was completedas a performance-based standard with repeatable and objective requirements.

An overviewof current standards development topics, as well as activities in the area ofthe ongoing exchange with regulatory agencies will be given.
