The new “Light Source Resolution” with regard to future light source proposals and versus regulatioDr. WalterSchlager* LUMILEDS Germany GmbH *Contact: walter.schlager@lumileds.com
Abstract With the simplification of the UN Regulations on lightsources (R37, R99, R128), which is expected to be enforced in summer 2017, alldata sheets for filament light sources, gas-discharge light sources and LEDlight sources are bundled in the so-called “Resolution on the commonspecification of light source categories (R.E.5)”. The decoupling of the technical specifications ofreplaceable light sources from the UN Regulations opens up the possibility tomake reference from other regional/national Regulations and Standardsas well. Further, innovations (i.e. proposals of new categories of lightsources) can be introduced in a shorter period of time because the technicaldescriptions will be enforced right after the adoption by WP.29 – saving a periodof about eight months in total (due to administration and notificationprocesses). The presentation will give detailed insight how infuture LED light sources for forward lighting applications will be integratedin the UN regulatory framework. Especially, thermal and photometric propertiesof LED light sources and the implementation of the corresponding interfaces willbe discussed.
