Markinglight: Safety enhancement by Markinglight Systems and their technical implementation

Abstract

Markinglight is an advanced sensor based front lighting system illuminating objects of interest in front of the car. Such systems have been under development for quite some time and will be on the market soon. Their potential to reduce accidents especially between cars and pedestrians has been calculated to a reduction of up to 18%.

This article will discuss details on different Markinglight system approaches. During extensive static and dynamic tests several light distributions and light generation technologies are compared. The result regarding the optimal light distribution will be presented. The outcome of the study shows the best compromise for a Markinglight system with a concept containing sensor systems, light generation and light distribution.
