Abstract— As the voice assistant(VA) in automobiles increases, efforts are made to mature the interaction quality. This study explored the lighting attributes as additional feedback to enhance the communication quality while the VA is activated. We carried out a workshop with 24 designers in a passenger car in that light modules were installed and configurable. Then, we devised a toolkit to control the light attributes, such as patterns, speed, and color. Given four situations, participants utilized the toolkit to create optimal light contents by iteratively exploring the lighting attributes. As a result, smooth dimming was preferred by most of the participants. Furthermore, different light patterns were intuitively associated with individual speakers. Also, we observed that designers tended to choose lighting with a purity of around 26.7% aligned to the brand hue. As an error message, 51.4% purity red was suggested. The empirical evidence supports automobile manufacturers to create the light content mapped with VA for better communication between users and automobiles.
