Abstract

Innovationsin Lighting Technology are rapidly introduced in the past years, mainly inEurope, Japan, and US.

Nevertheless,the need to adapt these innovations in other regions like emerging marketcountries is very obvious.

Thereplacement of halogen bulbs by LED light sources is an important step intoenvironmental friendly technologies.

Theenormous market growth in countries like China and India should make use ofthese technologies as soon as possible

tobenefit with high volume production. Additionally, the new LED light sourcesoffer opportunities to generate an

excellentlight pattern with optimized visibility, which contributes to safety in nighttime traffic.

Torealize such solutions, affordable concepts have been developed to make itpossible to apply LED headlamps not only

inthe premium vehicle segments, but also in medium and small sized vehicles. Theconcept is called Opti-LED headlamp.

Thepaper describes the potential applications and identify the safety improvementsinvolved in such applications in

comparisonto the conventional  halogen headlampsolutions.
