Abstract— Driving the transition to LED from the premium car segment with highly sophisticated and customized designs towards economic car segment where Halogen and incandescent bulbs are still dominant is one of the key challenges of the automotive lighting industry. In this paper, regulated and standardized LED light sources for both frontlighting and RCL applications are introduced. Compared to current headlamp and  RCL systems based on a large quantity of non-replaceable LED sources, design complexity, total cost of ownership, global supply issues, and time to market can be significantly reduced by utilizing few replaceable and regulated standardized LED sources.  Standardized LED light sources enable styling differentiation in an attractive, fast and cost effective way.
