Fieldstudy of headlamp allignment for avoiding glare and reaching a maximal detection distanceKyriakos Kosmas, Prof.Dr.-Ing. habil. Tran Quoc Khanh, Laboratoryof Lighting Technology, Technische Universität Darmstadt The Laboratory ofLighting Technology of the TU Darmstadt developed a device for aiming and measuringautomotive headlamps. In contrast to conventional headlamp adjustment systems, which demand a plane surface, the newly developed device allows an adjustmentaccording to the ECE-Regulation on nearly every road surface. In a field study, 125cars have been examined according to their actual headlamp aiming. Different illuminants, age of the vehicle and riding performance have been taken into consideration. Inaddition to this field study, the device was used to check the ability of carrepair shops to aim headlamps. The results will be analyzed in dependence ofoncoming glare rate and detection distance. The authors would bepleased to present the operating principle of the device,as well as the results of the study on the IFAL 2015.
