Abstract— LED technology is penetrating more and more in Automotive lighting cross car segments and cross applications driven by the need for more stylish lighting designs, lower power consumption and higher performance. Especially in the entry level car segments LED technology is facing a total cost of ownership hurdle. Standardized LED light sources lower the total cost of ownership by reducing cost for: design-in, product release, supply chain, manufacturing and maintenance. Standard LED light sources also reduce the design throughput time enabling faster and more frequent luminaire re-designs. Although more limited in styling than customized designs using LED components Standardized LED light sources enable a wide range of attractive LED optical designs. Standard LED light sources can be easily applied to a wide variety of optical concepts including reflector, Fresnel and light guide based solutions.
